Role of the Parish Council in the Community

The Parish Council is the first tier of local government and represents the interests of the community. It works to improve the quality of life for residents by:

• Responding to local needs and concerns

• Delivering services such as maintaining open spaces, play areas and footpaths

• Commenting on planning applications and influencing decisions

• Managing community assets like noticeboards, bus shelters and benches

• Supporting local groups and events through grants and advice

• Working with District and County Councils to get the best outcomes for the parish

The Council is made up of elected Councillors who live in or near the parish. It meets regularly to discuss issues, set priorities and make decisions that benefit the community.

As the most local unit of government, the Parish Council has the authority to raise money through the council tax system (the precept) to support its initiatives.

The Parish Council meetings are held bi-monthly, starting in January. These meetings are open to the public, and residents are encouraged to attend and participate during the open session. Your views, concerns, and feedback are invaluable to us.
