Snetterton Parish Council

 

Following a fire at Wiser, the recycling site in Thetford which recycles small electricals and batteries, we have had to suspend our kerbside collections of these items.

We are working hard to secure another outlet and are awaiting the compliance scheme to organise another supplier who can collect these items from us.

We will continue to advise residents via our website and social media that collections are postponed and to hang on to the items until we recommence collections.

Snetterton Parish Council is pleased to announce that a new public defibrillator and cabinet have been installed at World Horse Welfare, Anne Colvin House, Snetterton, Norwich, NR16 2LR (What3Words: ///column.amps.sports).

The defibrillator was provided free of charge by the British Heart Foundation as part of their community support programme. World Horse Welfare has kindly covered the cost of installation and will also fund the ongoing electricity supply.

The defibrillator is registered with The Circuit – the national defibrillator network, ensuring it can be located quickly by emergency services when needed. The device provides clear voice instructions to guide users through each step in an emergency.

The Parish Council is very grateful to World Horse Welfare and the British Heart Foundation for their generous support in helping to make this life-saving equipment available to our community.

Snetterton Parish Council is pleased to report that the eroded access on the Wash Lane Byway at the south end of Snetterton has now been successfully restored.

Our sincere thanks go to Luke Denney MIHE, Highway Engineer at Norfolk County Council, for the excellent work carried out to improve the access to our bridge. The repairs have made a significant difference, ensuring safe and reliable use of this important route for all users.

• Respondents: 19 (out of a population of approximately 220, ~8.6% response rate)
• Purpose: To gather feedback on the proposed transfer of land at North End (1.5 acres) and potential uses.

The Council is considering creating a small nature reserve area on the North End land. Do you support this idea?

If you do not support the creation of a nature reserve, or if you have other ideas, please share what you would like to see on the North End land?

• Maybe an area with seating for people to enjoy it.
• If the area is going to be available for people to use can we have a dog bin/waste bin so that any mess can be managed.
• Something that will benefit people who actually live in the area
• Not for houses to be built
• We support the idea of a small nature reserve, but it would be really nice to see a community element to the land project where people can meet and work together on the land. We also think it is essential that the project is accessible (decolonial and inclusive). We would love to see some allotments and a focus on food-growing!
• We would also like to see tree planting; such as a community orchard and coppice woodland. There is always the possibility of supplying Norfolk Community Fridges with surplus fruit.
• Please consider a small community-tree-nursery (as exampled by Norwich Salhouse Community Nursery) which raises free saplings of deciduous tree within a few beds (for local people & community projects).
• It would be nice to see conversations/consultations being held; with the land/nature itself regarding the future of the space.
• I think the area could be more useful as a recreation area as nowhere for children to play in this village. Also a bench could be provided for people to sit and relax.

 

Are there any other projects or initiatives that you would like Snetterton Parish Council to consider in the coming years

• Shop, pub, playpark for children, bus service
• Play equipment for children Dog walking area
• Traffic calming measures. To slow traffic down. More than just speed limits. Also surface water flooding issues when we have heavy rain.
• Better overall land drainage, traffic calming measures.
• Raised curbs to protect verges around the village due to the huge increase in business and agricultural traffic. A keep Snetterton clean and tidy initiative.
• Nature corridors between gardens and connecting North and South Ends. Nature corridors along the floodplain of the River Thet, and a Slow the Flow campaign to reduce flooding. No Mow May campaign. Hedgehog friendly garden which means cutting holes in fences.
• Community events, the Snetterton church used for something, allotments, organic food-cooperative (food buying group), orchard, coppicing, cob building (for community space), a use for the bus shelter, reconnect Snetterton to the bus routes, bike path to Attleborough, please sort out inaccessible footpaths.
• A 30mph limit to be extended from North End completely through to South End of Snetterton.
• Wooden seating for the nature reserve, sculpture, small communal garden.

 

Additional Comments

• It would be good to see one of the many businesses within the village, North and South supporting the supply and maintenance of a defibrillator machine that falls within easy access to both, or better still one at each end of the village. Sign cleaning to support reinforced traffic calming would be a benefit too.
• We would consider volunteering to upkeep the nature area if required. We support this project wholeheartedly.
• Proposed Nature Reserve is a great idea.
• Nature Reserve is an excellent proposal.
